Distill.

Distill ("we", "us") makes a curated news‑reading app. This policy explains what information the Distill mobile app collects, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using Distill you agree to this policy.

Information we collect

Account information. If you create an account, we process your email address (email sign‑in) or your name and email from Google (Google sign‑in), via Firebase Authentication. If you continue as a guest, we create an anonymous account identifier and do not collect your email.
Usage and analytics. We use Firebase Analytics to understand how the app is used — for example which articles are opened, the topic and feed view in use, app opens, and general interaction events — along with pseudonymous identifiers, device and app information, and approximate (country/region‑level) location derived from your IP address.
Crash and diagnostics. We use Firebase Crashlytics to record crash reports and basic device state so we can fix problems.
App integrity. We use Firebase App Check (Play Integrity) to verify that requests come from the genuine app and to protect our service from abuse.
Your preferences. Your selected topics and a "last caught up" timestamp (used for the "New" view) are stored to personalize your feed.

Distill does not collect your contacts, photos, precise location, or microphone/camera.

How we use information

To provide and personalize your news feed and keep your preferences in sync.
To understand engagement and improve the app and our curation.
To diagnose crashes and maintain reliability.
To protect the service from abuse and secure our systems.

How information is shared

We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with service providers that operate the app on our behalf — primarily Google Firebase (Authentication, Analytics, Crashlytics, App Check, Hosting, Cloud Functions) — which process it under their terms. Distill links out to news articles on third‑party publisher websites. When you open an article you leave the app and the destination site's own privacy policy applies. We do not control those sites.

Data retention

We keep account data until you delete your account. Analytics and crash data are retained according to Firebase's default retention periods. You can request deletion at any time.

Deleting your account and data

You can permanently delete your account from inside the app: tap the menu (⋮) in the top right of the feed and choose Delete account. This deletes your Distill account and your stored preferences and reading history. You can also request deletion by email. For details see our Account & Data Deletion page.

Children

Distill is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.

Security

We use industry‑standard measures, including authenticated, encrypted connections, to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by the "Last updated" date above.
